Groenheid

Groenheid: Hoe groen iets of iemand is.

A quite literal translation of the amount of 'green' that is present in The Hague neighbourhoods. After filtering all the grey concrete, orange roof tiles, red bricks and brown, bare soil out of satellite imagery, all that is left are archipelagos of green trees, parks and gardens. Here, the presence of humans is made visible by the lack of green.

The Hague is known to be one of the most overheated cities in The Netherlands. One way of countering this effect is to take out tiles, concrete and other soil covering materials in one's immediate environment, and replace them for plants and/or bodies of water. This project illustrates the importance of a common approach, where the smallest efforts can have a visible effect on a collective scale.
